News - Ancient Aliens/Walls of Jericho

I was watching the History Channel last week when a show I had not heard of came on. It was called Ancient Aliens. I started watching to see what it was about and the first thing it talked about was Joshua and the fall of the walls of Jericho.

They suggest in this show that the Israelites could have possessed sound wave technology; and if they did possess it, where it came from.

They say, "According to many ancient astronaut theorists, Moses and the Israelites acquired a supernatural source of energy at Mt. Sinai. This powerful energy source was later contained in the ark of the covenant, and would have provided the kind of power necessary to amplify Joshua's horns and make them into a powerful sonic weapon."

They say the this particular use of the Shofar (Joshua's horns) clearly seems to be the same thing that we are seeing with "particle-beam technology", "death-ray technology" and "thunderbolt technology". They say it seems once again, that we have an extraterrestrial technology, that the ancient people had, at the ready, they could use, when needed, for military campaigns.

I was surprised at first when I heard this, but then after a while not so much. People are always trying to discredit the work of God in the old testament.

The bible says in Joshua 6:20:

So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.

It's sad how people cannot take the Word of God for truth and try to come up with anything, and I mean anything (like extraterrestrial technology) to discredit the work of God.

Devotional

Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

                                               Hebrews 3:12-13

What happens if you miss a day of not spending some time with the Lord? The day doesn't seem as good as it could have been. Or maybe it's only on Sunday that you spend time with the Lord. Maybe it's only on Holidays, say Christmas and Easter. Well, when you allow gaps in your time with the lord, it is possible and probable for your relationship to grow dull. In fact here in Hebrews it states that the cause of falling away from God is an evil, unbelieving heart. When we don't spend time it is very possible for our heart to grow evil and unbelieving. We might not notice it a first but it slowly starts to take affect.

To stop this from occurring the writer of Hebrews says to "encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." So we are to encourage one other. And how often? EVERY DAY. In fact the writer uses some sarcasm here. He basically says as long a people are calling today "today", encourage one another.

So as Christians we need to encourage our fellow brothers and sisters daily. Also we need to be encouraged by other fellow Christians daily. That is, so that are heart is not in the position of becoming hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. It might not seem like you are being deceived, but that is how sin works. It will make you feel that "it's ok if you don't read your bible to day", "it's ok if you don't pray today", "it's ok if you don't do anything pleasing to the Lord today". This progress will continue; and in this state it is possible to attain and evil, unbelieving heart so as to fall away from the living God.

So let us please encourage one another daily.

News - Another Church Compromising

Yesterday my parents, Jason and Martha Ham, were looking for a church to go to while they were in Coronado California. They were planning on going to Coronado Community Church and decided to look at their website to see their "What we believe" statement. This is what they found.

What we believe:

We believe God speaks in many languages and has revealed divine truth in the major religious traditions of the human race. Our central belief is that Jesus Christ is Lord. But in proclaiming that Jesus is the way and the truth does not preclude that his way may also be manifest in religions that do not worship him as Lord. We believe there is a mystery of how God works in our traditions exceeding our knowledge and control. We celebrate the revelation of God presented in the Holy Bible and trust God’s Spirit to unlock how we are to understand divine truth and apply it to our lives.

I guess with all that is going on in the Church today this should not be surprising. It seems that more and more in our culture churches do not want to stand on God's word, they would rather compromise to keep people in the building.

Devotional

Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

                               Hebrews 10:19-25

I see 4 things here that the writer of Hebrews is pleading with Christians to do. The writer is telling us to DRAW NEAR, HOLD FAST, STIMULATE ONE ANOTHER, ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER. And to do these things more frequently each day for "the day" is drawing nearer each day.

These are 4 things we as Christians need to do. We need to self-check ourselves to make sure that we are doing these things.

Joshua Ham's Question - Revival in the USA?

As of late, there has been many movements that have affected the church in U.S.A.; however, has the Church responded accordingly? We have NBC omitting "under God" and "indivisible" in the pledge, cemetery directors banning the words "God bless you", and Christian churches coming together with Islam.

So my question is:
Should the Church respond?
and if so,
How should the Church respond?

There are so many things happening in the U.S.A. that affects the church and most of the time no response comes from the church at all, aside the brief sigh. I know that there are some churches responding to these movements, but I believe they are far and in between.

I guess this is the big picture question.
Is the USA Church in need of revival?

Jason Hams Comment's - 4th of July

The 4th of July, one side of me wants to celebrate by eating all day with good friends and watching the fireworks at night from a close distance. The other side of me wants to mourn for our country. Instead of feasting with my friends of the faith, we will fast and pray. Instead of watching thousands of dollars go up in smoke we will light one single candle just to remind us that Jesus is still and will ever be the Light of the world even in time of trouble. Kinda hard to celebrate our Nations History in light of what is going on. Reminds me of church. How can one possibly be in the spirit of worship when there is sin in the camp. In short I will pledge my alligence to the flag when I post it on my house. As for praying and fasting on the 4th? I will be at Calvary Community Church at 9pm with one solidarity candle. Whoever wants to join Martha and I is more than welcome. It will not be festive, but it will be productive. It will be a time of intercessory prayer for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The chruch bell will ring at 9 something just to remind us that we still have a voice and we chose to voice our concerns to God Almighty.
