Hebrews 3:12-13
What happens if you miss a day of not spending some time with the Lord? The day doesn't seem as good as it could have been. Or maybe it's only on Sunday that you spend time with the Lord. Maybe it's only on Holidays, say Christmas and Easter. Well, when you allow gaps in your time with the lord, it is possible and probable for your relationship to grow dull. In fact here in Hebrews it states that the cause of falling away from God is an evil, unbelieving heart. When we don't spend time it is very possible for our heart to grow evil and unbelieving. We might not notice it a first but it slowly starts to take affect.
To stop this from occurring the writer of Hebrews says to "encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin." So we are to encourage one other. And how often? EVERY DAY. In fact the writer uses some sarcasm here. He basically says as long a people are calling today "today", encourage one another.
So as Christians we need to encourage our fellow brothers and sisters daily. Also we need to be encouraged by other fellow Christians daily. That is, so that are heart is not in the position of becoming hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. It might not seem like you are being deceived, but that is how sin works. It will make you feel that "it's ok if you don't read your bible to day", "it's ok if you don't pray today", "it's ok if you don't do anything pleasing to the Lord today". This progress will continue; and in this state it is possible to attain and evil, unbelieving heart so as to fall away from the living God.
So let us please encourage one another daily.
